I am reaching out today to urgently ask that you co-sponsor “An Act Enabling Cities and Towns to Stabilize Rents and Protect Tenants” (S. 1447 / H.2328). This bill will allow cities and towns to implement local measures to cap excessive rent increases, providing critical protections for renters in our communities. With housing costs continuing to rise, many of our neighbors are being forced out of their homes due to unaffordable rents. At the same time, the shortage of affordable housing continues to grow, with new developments largely focused on high-end tenants rather than meeting the needs of those who are most at risk of being priced out of their neighborhoods. The consequences of this crisis are severe: families struggle to maintain stability, children are displaced from schools, and our communities lose the diversity that makes them strong. We need your leadership to address this crisis and protect vulnerable tenants from displacement.
